What is Climate Change?
Climate change is not just
the typical "Earth heating up because of carbon dioxide which melts the
polar ice caps." Climate change is
much more then that such as the impact that it has on the economy, political
views and also the increasing and decreasing of temperature across not only the
United States but the whole world. Lately the weather in the north east, from
what I've noticed living in New York myself and watching the weather, that
weather patterns have drastically changed along with temperatures.
As the years go by the climate gets warmer and warmer because of the carbon dioxide trapping in the heat coming from the sun. Now the carbon dioxide is not the only thing that's trapping in the heat it is also the other greenhouse gasses. This heat that's being trapped is causing the polar ice caps to melt. After multiple years of insolation these ice caps will be completely melted, allowing the sea level to rise. When the sea level will rise it will engulf some of the islands on this planet taking away some of the very little trees we have left on this planet. Taking away these trees would be allowing the carbon dioxide levels to rise, decreasing the amount of oxygen in the air which we breathe.
By which I can recall one day, I think a day before April it was practically a tundra outside in the morning. This morning is one of the weird occurrences in climate change that I have ever experienced. That morning it was below freezing temperatures with 80% chance of precipitation. The average temperature for this time of year is a higher temperature then this, a sign of climate change. Later as I was walking out of school, the temperature was much warmer, it was humid and all the snow was already gone. This is just another showing of how climate change is effecting our everyday lives.
Economics are also involved in what climate change is. We, as a country, are doing as much as we can to prevent our global climate issues. We are spending millions of dollars to fund the EPA, which are trying to get the word out to protect the environment but in my opinion it hasn't had much of an impact. We have still been spending as much money to transport goods and oil to us and other countries.
In conclusion, climate change is not only the heat being trapped but also dramatic changes in temperatures both decreasing and increasing, economic issues and many more.
